  Coaching Overview

*Everyone is a Coach" receives positive response. Read about new coaching assignments we have won since the launch*

Coaching is where it's at. A recent survey in the US showed that it was among the top 3 growth professions. There is now a life coaching series on television. Many column inches have been devoted to the impact of coaching. Even President Clinton had a coach! However in this country there is a lot of confusion about what coaching is and how it can make an impact in the work environment. In business, managers have sometimes been expected to become coaches overnight. So, there is a chance that coaching can become misrepresented, applied ineffectively and dismissed as not living up to expectations.

Coaching plays an increasingly important and vital part in helping people at work to develop the skills and knowledge that are critical to improving performance and maintaining competitive advantage. Coping with rapid change and business pressures requires a culture of continuous learning in organisations. The adoption of coaching as part of a cultural shift in a business is having a dynamic impact in many diverse environments.

  But, what exactly is coaching?

Coaching is an on-going partnership that helps people produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives, and can produce sustainable improvements in morale and results within a business. Coaching, at its best, addresses the whole person and works towards sustainable life-changing behaviour.

Coaching, defined by Sir John Whitmore, in 'Coaching for Performance' is:

'Unlocking a person's potential to maximise their own performance.

It is helping them to learn rather than teach'

It is empowerment in action.

Coaching can concentrate on anything that is important to the employee and the business in the present. Topics might include:

  • Managing time
  • Presenting
  • Leadership
  • Creating outcomes
  • Self-motivation
  • Building more purposeful relationships
  • Managing
  • Pitching
  • Decision Making
  • Career planning
