A tender process was put in place to select a training partner to design and deliver a programme which would support managers during this time of transition and change.
We were delighted to be selected. The overall objectives of the learning programme that we have designed, are as follows;
- Provide participants with an awareness of the challenges involved in managing in a flexible working environment, and to enable them to identify the key skills required
- Enable them to identify how they want to develop their skills
- Provide them with the opportunity to share experiences and to resolve issues that they face or envisage
There are 4 elements/stages to the programme. Participants are sent a briefing guide and self-study pack. A self assessment tool is used to measure their current level of skill, knowledge and competence in areas that are very specific to managing in the flexible working environment.
The self study and assessment are followed by a series of 3 1/2 day workshops, which are highly practical, where staff focus on application and live cases and challenges.
The workshops address challenges such as;
- How do you "supervise" someone you cannot see?
- What are the additional challenges in communicating with staff who are working remotely?
- If team members are often not working together in the same place, how does this impact team motivation?
- How do you reconcile operational requirements with people's flexible working patterns?
