This Client had recently been through a major re-organisation, with a number of operating companies being merged into new business channels. Our brief was to work with the newly formed Human Resources Department, which was working on a split site, two-location basis. A key objective of the department is to effectively manage the change process and to help people within the business adjust to the new way of working. It was therefore vital that the Human Resources team could work together as a team.
A team development event was designed, focusing on:
Establishing team views on "what we currently do well as a team"
Gaining insights into"what we could improve on" in terms of tasks, activities and deliverable outputs to the business
Understanding the key departmental goals for the next 6 months and recognising the team's contribution to the achievement of those goals
The Strength Deployment Inventory (SDI)® was used as a development tool to enable the team of 14 people to:
Understand their preferred communication style when communicating with others
To gain an understanding of how they interact with each other
Highlight collective team strengths
Identify team "blind-sides" or strength deficiencies
Understand how the team deals with interpersonal conflict
The output from the event was a working document that described the team culture "The way we do things around here" and action plans where individuals worked together using the SDI® as a tool to understand each other better and to devise strategies for working together more effectively.
